a brief update

today was an exciting day for me.  not only did i get to go to an asl workshop on campus, but i went to the sign language and deaf culture club on campus for the first time.  both were very exciting to me.  i finally met a deaf person in morehead!  the Lord answered my prayer.  shelby is a freshman at msu, and is leading the club.  i really enjoyed getting to sign with her!  i am looking forward to hopefully getting to know her better.  so thankful that the Lord is leading me in my pursuit to really learn asl.

john has been working long days.  this is a rough part of the semester.  but he is doing a great job.  tonight he is working with the robotic team, trying to get the robot ready in time for the robot competition. (sounds pretty nerdy, right?)

lastly, porter is enjoying being 1.  he is into more mature things now...

the kentucky fall

its beautiful.  today was my day to go visit john on campus.  morehead is nestled in between two ridges. fall colors are everywhere.  here are a few photos from my walk.  hopefully they can give you a little glimpse of the landscape here.
this is the view from john's building on campus
we live at the bottom of that ridge

daytrip to berea

today we went to berea, which is about an hour and a half away.  we went there to visit the roush family, who we met through our friends back in lancaster, michael and mary neumann.  so...friends of our friends, are now our friends.  (does that make sense?)

danny and lisa roush could not have been nicer.  they never had met us before, but they welcomed us to their beautiful sustainable farm to hang out and have dinner.  we loved getting to know them and their 4 children.  we also loved getting to see their farm and the animals... john porter had the time of his life.

john porter is finally getting back to normal after a few days of being sick.  he made up for a lot of lost sleep today, which was awesome.

nothing really new to say, so i thought i post this collection of photos of porter.  he enjoys using his mouth as a third hand.

fall

it feels like fall today.  its really cold, the crunchy leaves are covering the ground, and pumpkins are everywhere.  i love this time of year.  we are really looking forward to the holidays and being home with our families.  i knew holidays would be different for us this year, but i am only now realizing how different they will be.  i won't be able to bake pumpkin pies in my own kitchen for thanksgiving...we won't be able to do our little christmas-y things in our home...like listening to christmas music while we decorate our own little tree, while drinking hot chocolate.

i know these things don't really matter.  we will enjoy being with family...and being together.  i am so thankful for that.

we had a mundane week.  school is getting busy for john.  he is mid-semester already.  time is going by so quickly! john porter will be one this month!  he is getting to be so big...and so fun...
